The Chevening programme, has, over 26 years, provided more than 30,000 Scholarships at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK for postgraduate students or researchers from countries across the world.

Largely funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Scholarship scheme also receives significant contributions from HEIs and other organisations in the UK, and from a wide range of overseas sponsors including governmental and private sector bodies, with which the FCO or its overseas Posts have partnership agreements.

Chevening Scholarships offer an ideal opportunity for young graduates not only to pursue higher education in their chosen field, but also to meet and network with peers and experts in the unique learning atmosphere that the UK provides. The programme's objectives include helping them in their career progression towards becoming leaders in their countries, strengthening cultural ties and building a network of friends of the UK.

Filipino, Marshallese, Micronesian and Palauan candidates are selected by the British Embassy in Manila. The scheme is managed by the British Council Philippines.

News Report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer
MANILA, Philippines—British Ambassador Stephen Lillie has announced that application to the prestigious Chevening Scholarships is now open for school year 2011-2012.
“We are pleased to again offer Chevening Scholarships to deserving young Filipinos who are budding leaders and changemakers and who have already made an impact in their respective fields,” Lillie said.
“Chevening Scholarships offer an ideal opportunity for young graduates not only to pursue higher education in their chosen field, but also to meet and network with peers and experts in the unique learning atmosphere that the UK provides,” he said.
Lillie said the program “is all about helping the Philippines' leaders of tomorrow achieve their true potential, so that they can help their country do the same.”
The Chevening Scholarships are for one-year courses leading to a Master's qualification.
The scholarship program has produced graduates who have made exemplary achievements in their careers. Just last year, Chevening alumna Flora May Cerna was awarded the 2010 Aquino Fellowship for Public Service for her exemplary work in encouraging several government organisations to increase transparency and accountability in their procedures.
Those interested to apply for a scholarship may visit the British Embassy website for more information. (Link Here) The deadline for submission of applications is on March 11.
Chevening Scholarships are granted by the British government to young individuals in the early stage of their careers who have the potential to become leaders, decision makers and opinion formers in their chosen field. The scholarships were named after the Chevening House in Kent, the UK Foreign Secretary's country residence.
